Clyde William Hennings was born September 7, 1887, on a farm east of Stromsburg in Polk County, Nebraska. He was the eldest son of Leonidas and Mary Kate Hoffer Hennings.

He spent most of his life in the community where he was born, receiving his education in the Victor School, east of Stromsburg. He later served on the School Board there for many years and was actively concerned with the school until its consolidation with the Stromsburg School System.

In 1911, he accepted Christ as his personal saviour and became a member of the Greens Chapel Church where he was also active in the various official capacities and community life. When Greens Chapel merged with the Stromsburg Methodist Church, he transferred his membership there and continued in its support until his death.

He married Myrtle Iona Anderson on September 4, 1912, in Bellville, Kansas. To this union four children were born. He farmed throughout his life living less than a mile from where he was born, until he retired in 1965. In 1975, he and his wife moved to Fort Calhoun to live with their daughter, Beverly, and her husband, Howell W. Cox.

He was preceded in death by one son, Oliver Grae, who died in infancy. One sister, Lucy Torell, also preceded him in death.

He is survived by his wife, Myrle of Fort Calhoun; two sons, Col. (retired) M. Don Hennings of Georgetown, Texas, and Virgil C. Hennings of Redondo Beach, California, one daughter, Beverly (Mrs. Howell) Cox of Fort Calhoun; one son-in-law, Howell W. Cox; two daughters-in-law, Mrs. M. Don (Bette J.) Hennings and Mrs. Virgil (Jean) Hennings; six grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. One sister, Mrs. Carrie Hannah of Boise, Idaho; and one brother, Orvylle R. Hennings of Prescott, Arizona; and many relatives and friends also survive him.

Pallbearers for the services were Alan Torell, Christopher Schwartz, Curtis Cox, Guenther Schwartz, Kurt Torell and Burdette Berck.
