Evelyn M. Henton 84, of rural Manhattan, Kan., died Monday, Dec. 14, 2009, at Stoneybrook Retirement Community in Manhattan.

Funeral services were Thursday at the Yorgensen-Meloan-Londeen Funeral Chapel. Interment was in the Pleasant Valley Cemetery, southeast of Manhattan.

Evelyn Mae Kinman was born Aug. 31, 1925, in Stanley, Kan., to Herbert Adam and Myrtle Gladys (Piper) Kinman. She had lived most of her adult life in the Manhattan area.

On February 20, 1944, she married to J. Eldon Henton in Manhattan.

Mrs. Henton was a homemaker and a school bus driver for many years prior to working 19 years at Kansas State University Veterinary Medicine.

She was a member of the Zeandale Community Church and Zeandale Senior Citizens.

She is survived by her husband, J. Eldon; seven children, John and Donna Henton and James and Linda Henton, all of Blair. Gladys and Jack Conrow of Manhattan, Alice and Don Anderson of Topeka, Kan., Mary Jo and Ralph McHugh, Janet and Neil Lee and Kathern and Dan Fronce, all of Manhattan; 18 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; one sister, Dorothea Kiene of Shawnee, Kan., and a sister-in-law: Kathern Kleiner of Wamego, Kan.
