N.T. LUND, 84, DIED THURSDAY

RETIRED BUSINESS MAN AND ONE-TIME COUNTY OFFICER DIED SUDDENLY

N.T. Lund, well-known former business man and county official died suddenly at his home on college hill Thursday. He was 84 years of age.

Mr. Lund's death came suddenly about 8:30 Thanksgiving morning. He had been in good health and had assisted his wife in shopping downtown the previous afternoon.

Mr. Lund was born in Denmark and came to the United Sttes with his parents when he was 7 years of age. The family settled first at Minneapolis, moving later to Vermillion, S.D., where they engaged in farming.

Mr. Lund, in his younger years, was interested in school work and for a time was a teacher. Later he was elected county superintendent of Washington County, in which capacity he served for several terms.

During World War One he was chairman of the Washington County Council ofDefense and a member of the Draft Appeal Board.

Several years after the close of the war he entered the real estate and the insurance business with Ove T. Anderson of Blair, a partnership which continued until 1925 when he became sole owner of the business. A short time later H. Lyle Guyer became a partner. 18 years later, Mr. Lund retired and sold his interests to P.V. Hansen.

Mr. Lund was a charter member and past President of the Blair Rotary Club, an ardent reader and held an avid interest in history, especially of the Civil War era and he was called upon many times to appear before clubs and organizations to recite incidents in the early days of this country.

He is survived by his wife Marie; two sons, Ray of Blair and Russell of Harlan, Ia. There are five daughters. Una of Los Angeles, Lona of Blair, Ruth of Blair, Mrs. Norma Van Steenhoven of Los Altos, Calif., and Dorothy of San Diego. There are also four grandchildren; and a brother, August Lund of Los Angeles.

Funeral servives were held Saturday afternoon at the First Lutheran Church with the Rev. George Palleson conducting the services. Burial, under the direction of the Bendrf Funeral Home, was in Blair Cemetery.

Active pallbearers at the services were James Anderson, Arnold Nielsen, Dan Greeno, P.V. Hansen, Lowell Christensen and Ingvard Skobo.

Serving as Honoary pallbearers were Philip O'Hanlon, H.Lyle Guyer, Ted Therkelsen, Dr. C.C. Madsen, Philip Magnussen and Francis Samson.
