Mrs. Christiana Heusermann, an old resident of this community, died at her home here at 11:30 p.m. Thursday, following a several days illness from pneumonia. Christiana Ackerley was born near Stuttgard in Wurtenberg, Germany. Here she grew to womanhood and was married to Gottlieb Heusermann. About forty-five years ago Mr. Heusermann passed away to the “Great Beyond.” A short time after his death, Mrs. Heusermann, with her three children, immigrated to America, settling at Evansville, Ind. In 1881 she came to Fontanelle, where she has since resided. She is survived by two children, Gottlieb Heusermann, of San Francisco, and Mrs. Fred Pfeiffer, of Fontanelle. Short services were held at her home at 11 a.m. and at the Lutheran Church at 11:30 Sunday, Rev. L Grauenhorst officiating. She was laid to rest in the Lutheran Cemetery.

Mrs. Gottlieb Heusermann died at her home in Fontanelle Thursday night at 11 p.m. She had been ill only a short time with pneumonia, having been in bed only about an hour previous to her death. She was a devout Christian and was much respected by all who knew her for her thrifty and sterling character. She was 76 years old, and was married in Germany to Gottlieb Heusermann. To this union were born three children, two daughters and one son, Mrs. Frederick Reithmuller, deceased, Mrs. Fred Pfeiffer and a son in California are the children. She was a widow for 45 years, her husband having been fatally injured in an accident.

She came to America in 1881 and after residing in Evansville, Indiana for three months, moved with her children to Fontanelle, making this her permanent residence. She is survived by a sister and brother in Germany, a sister in Norfolk, by twelve grandchildren and one great-grandchild. The entire community mourns the loss of one of its most highly respected pioneers.

Funeral services were held Sunday at the German church at 11:30.
