Former Kennard resident Byron K. Lauritsen, 71, of Fremont, died Thursday, Sept. 14, 2000, at Byran Lincoln General Hospital Medical Center East at Lincoln.

Funeral services were held on Monday, Sept. 18 at First United Methodist Church in Fremont.

The Rev. Gene Watson and the Rev. Michael McGregor officiated. Interment was at the Kennard Cemetery.

Byron D. Lauritsen was born on Dec. 15, 1928 in Kennard at Nels and Cora (Grimm) Lauritsen. He grew up in Kennard.

Mr. Lauritsen served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War from Nov.20, 1950 to Oct. 17, 1952, and served in Korea. He operated a lumber yard and grain storage in Kennard and operated the Lauritsen Grain Storage in Arlington.

He was also engaged in a farming operation. Mr. Lauritsen resided in Fremont for the last six years.

He was a member of the Grace United Methodist Church at Kennard; V.F.W. Post #8332 at Arlington; and the Fraternal Order of Eagles in Blair.

Mr. Lauritsen married Darlene K. Dimig on Jan. 18, 1951. She preceded him in death on Jan. 24, 1990.

Mr. Lauritsen married Freda Hill on March 28, 1992 in Arlington.

He is survived by his wife, Freda; son, Dan Lauritsen of Vancouver, Wash.; daughter and son-in-law, Diane and Martin Schulken of Mount Pleasant, S.C.; stepson, Jeff Clark of Omaha; stepdaughters, Shelly Rodriquez and fiancé, Dave Thompson of Denver, Colo.; and Joni and husband Doug Gallaway of Grand Island; sister and brother-in-law, Loraine and Russell Taylor of Fremont; a grandson and four stepgrandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his first wife, Darlene; two brothers, Harvey Lauritsen and infant brother; and two sisters, Ruth Frink and Elnora Hoeneman.

Memorials are suggested to Grace United Methodist Church Building Fund at Kennard and the First United Methodist Church Redecorating Fund at Fremont. Moser Memorial Chapel in Fremont was in charge of arrangements.

The funeral for Byron D. Lauritsen, 71, of Fremont, formerly of Kennard, will be 10 a.m. Monday at First United Methodist Church in Fremont.

He died Thursday, Sept. 14, 2000, at Bryan Lincoln General Hospital Medical Center East in Lincoln.

Lauritsen was born Dec. 15, 1928 in Kennard. He grew up in Kennard. He served in the United States Army during the Korean War from Nov. 20, 1950 until Oct. 17, 1952. He married Darlene Dimig Jan. 18, 1951 in Omaha. He operated a lumber yard and grain storage in Kennard and operated Lauritsen Grain Storage in Arlington. He also worked in a farming operation. His spouse died in Jan. 24, 1990. He moved to Fremont and lived here the last six years. He married Freda Hill March 28, 1992 in Arlington.

He was a member of Grace United Methodist Church in Kennard; Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 8332 of Arlington and Fraternal Order of Eagles in Blair.

Survivors include: his wife; a son, Dan Lauritsen of Vancouver, Wash.; a daughter, Diane Lauritsen (Mrs. Martin Schulken) of Mount Pleasant, S.C.; a stepson, Jeff Clark of Omaha; two stepdaughters, Shelly Rodriguez and fiancé Dave Thompson of Denver; Joni (Mrs. Doug) Gallaway of Grand Island; a sister, Loraine (Mrs. Russell) Taylor of Fremont; a grandson and four stepgrandchildren.

He was preceded in death by three brothers and two sisters.

The Revs. Gene Watson and Michael McGregor will officiate Monday’s service. Visitation will be 1-9 p.m. Sunday at Moser Memorial Chapel in Fremont and will continue one hour prior to service time in the church. Military graveside services will be conducted by member of Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 8332 and American Legion post 71, both of Arlington, in Kennard Cemetery in Kennard.

Memorials have been established to Grace United Methodist Church building fund in Kennard and First United Methodist Church redecorating fund.
