Ted moved to Omaha and worked at Mutual of Omaha until he was drafted into the Navy in September of that year. While in the Navy he came to know the Lord as his Savior and after being discharged in 1947 he attended the Fundamental Bible Institute in Los Angeles, CA. In 1949 he transferred to Omaha Bible Institute and graduated from there in May of 1950. He was ordained at Chariton Bible Church in Chariton, IA later that same year. During his time at OBI he began pastoring the Independent Bible Church in Derby, IA and after graduation took on a full time pastorate of four country churches in that area.

While Ted was attending Omaha Bible Institute he met the love of his life, Glenna Ellen Bybee, and they were married on June 5, 1951 at Grace Baptist Church in Omaha. God blessed their union with 4 daughters and 1 son and gave them over 65 years together as husband and wife. In the years just after his marriage Ted served as pastor in Derby, IA, Burr Oak, KS, and started First Baptist Church in Plattsmouth, NE.

In 1956 he and Glenna moved with their 2 oldest daughters to California where he attended LA Baptist College until 1959 when he began pastoring Grace Baptist Church in Home Gardens, CA., leaving there in 1970. Ted spent 40 years in the ministry before retiring from First Baptist Church in Nebraska City, NE where he pastored for almost 19 years. After retirement Ted and Glenna settled in Omaha where he continued his ministry through supply pulpit for churches in the area and teaching and serving at Grace Baptist Church in Omaha.
