John 'JT' Taylor, 85

John H. "JT" Taylor, Jr., age 85, of Fremont died early Monday September 26, 2016, at Nebraska Methodist Hospital in Omaha.

He was born on the family farm near Blair on April 4, 1931, to John H. and Meta M. (Hansen) Taylor, Sr. He grew up on the farm and attended Bisbee School through the 10th grade. He attended Blair High School for a year, then graduated from high school in Fremont in 1948.

John served in the United States Air Force from March 1951 to July 1952. After returning home, he worked at Hormel several years while also farming near Arlington. He also worked for Victor’s Implement west of Fremont from the early 1970s until last year.

John was an active member of the Fremont Alliance Church since 1952, having served on the church board, as an usher, and the building committee, as well various other committees. He was also a member of Arlington Legion Post 8332.

On March 3, 1951, John was married to Patricia A. Chappell.

Survivors include: wife, Patricia; daughter, Cindy Eaton, of Columbus and her family; granddaughter, Sarah (Craig) Bunck; great-grandchildren, Ana, Malachi, and Peyton Bunck of McKinney, Texas; grandson, Brent (Karlee) Eaton, of Columbus; great-grandchildren, Kiera, Chloe, and Mason Eaton, of Columbus; granddaughter, Paige Eaton, and special friend, Ollie Williams; grandson, Collin Eaton, and special friend, Kyndra Sanders, of Columbus; daughter, Sandy Sherwood, of Grand Island and her family; grandson, Logan Sherwood, and fiancee, Jacey Montgomery, of Bremen, Kansas; great-granddaughter, Madison Sherwood, of O’Dell; granddaughter, Taylor Sherwood, and special friend, David Ruether, of Broken Bow; daughter, Carol (Tim) Sheets, of Blair; grandson, Chase Sheets, and special friend, Mandy Benzer, of Fremont; great-grandchildren, Emmitt and Elliott Taylor, of Fremont; grandson, Zak Moore, and special friend, Jordan Johnson, of Fremont; 3 sisters, Janet (Gary) Chubb, of Dallas, Texas, Mary (Chuck) Barrett of Highlands Ranch, Colorado, Marie Cameron of Boise, Idaho; 2 brothers, Tom Taylor of Omaha, Tim (Deb) Taylor of Princeton, Texas; sister-in-law, Patricia Taylor, of Fremont; and many nieces and nephews.

John was preceded in death by his brother, Bob, and nephew, Rob Taylor.

The funeral will be at 10 am Friday, Sept. 30 at Fremont Alliance Church. The Rev. Tom Nevius will officiate. Burial will follow in Ridge Cemetery with Military Honors by American Legion Post 8332 of Arlington. Memorials are suggested to the Fremont Alliance Church. Visitation will be Thursday, Sept. 29 from 4 pm to 8 pm with the family present 5 pm to 7 pm at the Ludvigsen Mortuary Chapel in Fremont.
