Dr. Raymond and Marie were married in 1921. They did not have children, but raised their nephew John Joseph "Jack" Carroll as their own. Jack was the son of Raymond's brother, and both his parents had passed away by the time Jack was ten years old. Jack followed the family tradition (his father was a surgeon in San Francisco), earned his own medical degree at Creighton University in Omaha, and briefly practiced with his uncle in Laurel.

Raymond and Marie lived in Laurel, Nebraska until Raymond's retirement, then spent their last years living in Tucson, Arizona
