Vera B. Ratfield, age 80, of Milford, Nebraska died October 23, 2016, in Milford, Nebraska. Funeral services will be held Friday, October 28, 2016, at 10 a.m. at Campbell Aman Funeral Home in Blair, Nebraska. Burial will follow services in the Kennard Cemetery. Visitation will be held Thursday October 27 at Campbell Aman Funeral Home with family receiving friends from 6 to 8 p.m.

Vera Ratfield was born on February 26, 1936, in Blair, Nebraska to Arthur J. and Gladys N. (Taylor) Brown. She was raised in the DeSoto and Blair, Nebraska areas and attended Blair High School. Vera worked as a cook and waitress at Topper's Cafe in Blair for 20 years and later retired to care for her husband, Melvin. She later went back to work at Elkhorn Manor in Elkhorn, Nebraska while continuing to care for her husband.

Vera enjoyed camping, needle work and doing puzzles. She worked as a volunteer at Sunrise Manor in Milford in the activities department, where she could often be found visiting and playing cards with the residents.

She is survived by her children: daughter, Diana (Raymond) Sandburg, of Pratt, Kansas; daughter, Bonnie (Jerry) Bell, of Milford, Nebraska; son, Larry (Beth) Ratfield, of Blair; and son, Robert Ratfield, of Lincoln, Nebraska; 14 grandchildren; and 29 great-grandchildren.

Vera was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Melvin; son, Billy Dean Brown; brothers, Lloyd Brown, Garold Brown and James Brown; and sister, Ardith (Brown) Whittington.
