MRS. LEONARD LOFTIS BURIED AT TEKAMAH FRIDAY

Mary Skinner Loftis was born at Herman, Nebraska on November 2, 1901, to Minnie (Wilson) and John Skinner. H She lived at Herman all her childhood. She was married to Leonard Loftis on October 10, 1923, at Logan, Iowa. She lived most of her married life in Burt and Washington counties, spending her later years in Cherokee Village, Arkansas. They were to have observed their 50th Wedding Anniversary October 10.

To this union were born seven children: Barbara Loftis, Axtell, Nebr.; Mrs. Carl (Mary Helen) Launer, Omaha, Nebraska; Tom Loftis and Leonard Loftis Jr. of Herman, Nebraska; Mrs. Dale (Betty) Finch, Eureka, Kansas; Alan Loftis, Seward, Nebraska; Mrs. Larry (Ruth) Nelson, Arlington, Nebr. There are 21 grandchildren and 1 great-grandchild.

She is also survived by four brothers and three sisters: John Skinner, Robert Skinner, and James Skinner of Herman; Bill Skinner, Ramona, California; Jessie Shamburg, Herman; Mable Hovendick and Elizabeth Lang, Craig, Nebraska. She was preceded in death by her parents; one brother, Thomas Skinner; and one grandson, Mark Finch.

Mrs. Loftis will be remembered for the deep devotion to her family and for her love of her garden and flowers. She was a member of the Herman United Methodist Church most of her life and remained a faithful member until she and her husband transferred their membership to the Cherokee Village United Methodist Church in Arkansas.

For 42 years, Mary ministered unselfishly, with love and tenderness to her daughter, Barbara, who is mentally alert but physically handicapped, spending her time in bed.

Funeral services were held September 28, 1973, at the Tekamah United Methodist Church with Rev. Campbell and Pastor Zack Kleinsasser of the Herman Federated Church in charge of the services. Pallbearers were the grandsons.
