Washington County native Mildred "Milly" Hill, 78, of Huntington, Vt., died Jan. 15, 2008, at the Vermont Respite House in Williston, Vt.

A celebration of her life is planned for 11 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 26, at the Huntington Baptist Church in Huntington Center, Vt.

Mildred Guyer was born April 1, 1929, to H. Lyle and Viva Guyer. She grew up in Blair with her siblings, Lyla, Glen and Lee.

She was a graduate of Blair High School, and attended Dana College. She graduated from Nebraska Wesleyan University, where she met her husband, Mark Langdon Hill. The couple was married for 58 years.

The Hills raised their six children at their home in Essex Junction. Their children are Mark "Rocky" Hill of Helena, Mont., Cindia Brown of Bennington, Vt., Melinda "Mindy" Hill of Hulls Grove, Maine, Chris Hill of Milford, Mass., Maurie Hill of Manchester Center, Vt., and Todd Hill of Duxbury, Vt.

Mrs. Hill was a longtime choir director at the First United Methodist Church and was an enthusiastic member of the church's "Couple's Club."

She earned her master's degree in education at the University of Vermont, and worked with children through the I-Team's Center for Developmental Disabilities at the UVM. After retiring from UVM, the couple joined the Peace Corps, where Mrs. Hill taught rural children in Jamaica to read. They later moved to Huntington, where she resumed her love for church music as the longtime choir director of the Huntington Community Church.

Over the years, she enjoyed returning to her hometown at numerous reunions, and especially loved singing with her siblings and visiting hometown and college family and friends.

She loved her family, church, garden, swimming pool, and countless adventures with her husband. Their travels included trips to Spain and Africa, snorkeling in Bermuda, the Bahamas, and the Virgin Islands. Friends and family loved to join them on their active vacations.

She was well-known for her generosity, thoughtulness, and endless sense of humor, which never diminished. Her loving spirit touched many lives.

In addition to her husband and children, she is survived by 10 grandchildren and a great-granddaughter and their families. Locally, survivors include her aunts and uncle, Don and Henrietta Lippincott, and Ruth Lippincott, all of Blair, and many cousins.

In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to the Huntington Community Church; the Visiting Nurses Association; Heifer International; or Save the Children.
