ASSESSOR EARL LONG DIED SUNDAY

HAD SUFFERED FROM HEART AILMENT FOR NUMBER OF MONTHS

Earl P. Long, Washington County Assessor, died at Veterans’ Hospital in Omaha late Sunday evening. Death was attributed to a heart ailment from which he had suffered for a number of months. He was 67 years old.

Earl Pierce Long was born at Arlington October 24, 1898, the son of Mr. and Mrs. William D. Long. He grew to manhood in this county and spent virtually his entire life here. He was a brother of the late Ike Long, well known one-time Herman business man and former County Commissioner.

On May 29, 1945, he was married to Lola Cox at San Diego, California and they returned to Washington County within a short time and they have lived here ever since.

Mr. Long has served as Washington County Assessor for the past 12 years. He served as president of the Nebraska State Assessor’s Association in 1957-58.

He was active in many organizations and was a Past Presdient of the Blair Chamber of Commerce, Past Commander of the American Legion, Chef de Gar of 40 & 8, a member of the Methodist Church, of the Shriners and the Blair Melody Men. He served in World War I and World War II.

Survivors besides his wife, Lola are his sister-in-law, Mrs. Alice Long of Herman; three nieces, Mrs. Lloyd Whittaker of Salt Lake City; Mrs. Andrew McCabe and Mrs. Marion Griffitt of Lincoln; and one nephew Carlton Miller of Bakersfield, California.

Funeral services were held at 2:00 P.M. at the Methodist Church on Wednesday September 21st. The Rev. Richard Atherton officiated. Burial was in the Ridge Cemetery at Fremont. The Campbell Mortuary was in charge of arrangements.

Pallbearers were Ernest Bohs, Emery Hunt, Fred Guyer, Walter Goehring, Martin Kuhr and Ted Stewart.
