Herman War Veteran Dies

Homer Guy Fairchild, 70, died last Thursday at the Veterans Hospital in Omaha. He was a veteran of the Spanish-American War and onetime Washington County farmer.

Born Sept. 1, 1881 in Ohio, he came to Kennard at the age of three with his parents. He enlisted in the Co. I, (L?) Third Regiment, Nebraska Volunteers of the Spanish-American War July 10, 1898.

He was married to Nellie Coulter of Blair Jan. 8, 1902. They were the parents of two daughters and a son, the son having died at 12 years.

He worked as a telegraph operator in Omaha, Blair, Kennard and Arlington for three years following his marriage. Later he farmed in Scotts Bluff County, Pierce County and Washington County.

Also surviving are four sisters, Dr. Nora Fairchild of Los Angeles, Mrs. Stella Johnson of Chicago, Mrs. Alma Crapenhoft of Omaha, Mrs. Georgia Isaacson of Omaha; three brothers, Ralph of Alaska, Edgar of Minden and Aubrey of Seattle. There are 11 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

Services were Monday at Herman Methodist Church, the Rev. B.H. Hart of Plainview, Nebr., officiating. Burial was in Kennard Cemetery. Truhlsen Funeral Home of Herman had charge.
