William G. “Bill” Hightree, age 67, of Decatur, Nebraska, passed away early Monday morning, January 12, 1987 at the Memorial Community Hospital in Blair, after a lengthy illness.

He was born on December 12, 1919 at Walthill, Nebraska, and lived in Decatur nearly all his life. He was united in marriage to Mary Anne Karmann on March 8, 1942 at Sioux City, Nebraska. Bill was a self-employed carpenter/contractor for most of his life, and he was also employed by Iowa Beef Packers for four years prior to his retirement. He served in the Army Air Corps from 1942-1945 and was very active in the Decatur Volunteer Fire and Rescue Department for over thirty years.

Bill is survived by his wife, Mary Anne Hightree of Decatur; one son, Wayne Hightree of Decatur; one daughter, Judith Morgan of Omaha; nine grandchildren; his mother DeNola Hightree of Decatur; two brothers: Paul F. Hightree of Whiting, Iowa, and Herbert M. Hightree of Walthill, Nebraska; one sister, Melva Brewer of Onawa, Iowa. He was preceded in death by his father, John Melvin Hightree, and one brother, Earl V. Hightree.

Funeral services were held at 11:00 a.m., Wednesday, January 14, at the City Hall in Decatur. Interment was in the Hillcrest Cemetery at Decatur. The Hamel and Peck Funeral Home in Tekamah was in charge of all arrangements.
