Dorothea M. Hilgenkamp, 88, of Arlington, died Sunday, Oct. 21, 2001, at Arbor Manor in Fremont.

Funeral services were Wednesday, Oct. 24, at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Arlington, with Rev. Rick Kanoy officiating. Interment was at St. Paul’s Cemetery.

Dorothea M. Hilgenkamp was born May 28, 1913, in Arlington to William and Caroline (Hilgenkamp) Scheer. She grew up in Arlington.

On Oct. 6, 1935, she married Clarence Hilgenkamp in Arlington. The couple farmed north of Arlington until 1942, when they moved to a farm one mile north of Arlington in 1999. She had been residing at Arbor Manor in Fremont since April 2001.

Mrs. Hilgenkamp was a member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church, where she sang in the church choir for more than 25 years; was a member of the Lutheran Women’s Missionary League; was active in the quilters group at the church; was a former president and member of the Washington County Extension Club; volunteered at St. Paul’s School library and the Arlington Library; and was active in the Over 60 Center in Arlington.

She is survived by three sons and daughters-in-law, Darrell and Arlene Hilgenkamp, Melvern and Dianne Hilgenkamp, and Dennis and Joanne Hilgenkamp, all of Arlington; a brother and sister-in-law, Gilbert and Margaret Scheer of Arlington; sister, Clara Westermann of Fremont; seven grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, an infant sister, and a sister, Meta Gnuse.

Memorials are suggested to St. Paul's Lutheran Church or Lutheran Family Services.

Reckmeyer-Moser Funeral Home in Arlington was in charge of arrangements.

Dorothea Maria Hilgenkamp, the daughter of William and Caroline (Hilgenkamp) Scheer, was born May 28, 1913 at Arlington, Nebraska,, Nebraska. She grew up at Arlington. She married Clarence Hilgenkamp on October 6, 1935 at St. Paul's Lutheran Church, north of Arlington. The couple lived on a farm north of Arlington until moving to a farm one mile north of Arlington in 1942. Clarence died on March 4, 1978. Dorothea continued to live on the farm place until moving into Arlington in 1999. She had been residing at Arbor Manor in Fremont since April 2001.

Dorothea was a member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church and was a choir member for over 25 years. She was active in the quilter’s group at the church and the Lutheran Women’s Missionary League. Dorothea did volunteer work at St. Paul’s School Library and the Arlington Library. She was a former member and president of the Washington County Extension Club and was active in the Over 60 Center at Arlington.

She passed from this life on Sunday, October 21, 2001 at Arbor Manor in Fremont, Nebraska, at the age of 88 years, 4 months, and 23 days. She is survived by sons and daughters-in-law, Darrell & Arlene Hilgenkamp, Melvern & Dianne Hilgenkamp and Dennis & Joanne Hilgenkamp all of Arlington; a brother & sister-in-law, Gilbert and Margaret Scheer of Arlington; sister, Clara Westermann of Fremont; 7 grandchildren and 9 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents and husband; and sister, Meta Gnuse and an infant sister.
