Esther Hilgenkamp was born February 21, 1918 at Arlington, Nebr., to Henry and Sophie (Kruger) Hilgenkamp. Esther was an educator and taught school in Nebraska for several years before entering the service of her country as a member of the WAVES, United States Navy during World War II. For the past 40 years she has lived in Seattle, Washington where she continued her career as a teacher in the Seattle School System.

Esther passed from this life, Tuesday, April 24, 1984 in Seattle, at the age of 66 years, 2 months and 3 days. She is survived by her brother, Raymond Hilgenkamp and her sister, Laurina, Mrs. Leonard Sperling, both of Arlington, Nebr. and by 4 nieces and 3 nephews. Her parents preceded her in death.

Funeral services for Esther J. Hilgenkamp, 66, of Seattle, Washington, and formerly of Arlington, were held at 10:30 a.m. Monday at Reckmeyer-Moser Funeral Home in Arlington.

Miss Hilgenkamp, a retired teacher in the Seattle schools, died Tuesday of cancer.

She was born Feb. 21, 1918, in Arlington, and had lived in Washington for 40 years.

Miss Hilgenkamp taught for several years in Nebraska before moving to Washington. She was a veteran of World War II, during which she served in the WAVES.

Miss Hilgenkamp is survived by a brother, Ray Hilgenkamp of Arlington; and a sister, Mrs. Leonard (Laurina) Sperling, also of Arlington.

The Rev. Dennis Maaske of St. Paul's Lutheran Church officiated at Monday’s services. Burial was in St. Paul’s Cemetery north of Arlington.

The Arlington VFW and American Legion posts conducted graveside services.
