JOHN W. TAYLOR, 79

John W. Taylor, 79, of Fremont, died Tuesday, March 23, 2010, at his daughter’s home in Scribner.

A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Monday, March 29, at Moser Memorial Chapel in Fremont. Interment will be at a later date at Ridge Cemetery.

There is no visitation; however, friends and family may sign the register book from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.

John W. Taylor was born July 7, 1930, in Tekamah to James and Laura (Wilder) Taylor. He grew up in Tekamah and moved to Stockton, Calif., in his early 20s. He was self-employed, and owned his own tree service. He returned to Tekamah in the early 1960s. He was employed at Dehy Alfalfa Mills in Arlington until retiring in 1995.

In 1968, he married Mary Ann Dekas; the couple later divorced. On Dec. 17, 1977, he married Joyce Elizabeth Nickel in Blair.

He is survived by his daughters and son-in-law, Pamela DaSilva and Cheryl Anthony, both of Fremont, and Johanna and Jeff Modahl of Scribner; sons and daughters-in-law, John W. Taylor Jr. of Snyder, Jay W. and Linda Taylor; Richard V. King, Tim and Lorrie King, Ed and Patty King, and Michael King, all of Fremont; and David Preston and wife, Heather Taylor, of Bakersfield, Calif.; sister, Nellie M. Melroy of Fremont; numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Joyce, in 1989; sons, Doug Stacy and Lloyd King; daughters, Melinda Parker and Laura Modahl; brothers, Leonard, Russell, Herb and Carl; sisters, June, Mattie, Wilma and Pauline; and grandchildren, Michael King and Michael Taylor.
