MATILDA WACHTER RITES IN HERMAN

Matilda Olson was born on a farm near Herman June 18, 1875 and died at her home in Lincoln Friday, November 24, at the age of 64 years, 5 months and 6 days.

She was the daughter of the late Louis and Cornelia Olson. On March 1, 1892 she was united in marriage to Emil Wachter at Blair, Nebraska. To this union one daughter was born. Mr. Wachter passed away in 1913. Mr. and Mrs. Wachter went into business in Herman in 1910. They purchased a grocery store. After the husband’s death she continued to operate the business for many years. In 1923 she moved with her daughter to Omaha, and resided there until four years ago when they went to Lincoln which has since been their home.

Mrs. Wachter is survived by the daughter (Myrtle) Mrs. James Nielsen of Lincoln, one brother, William Olson of Herman, two sisters, Mrs. Mary Rosenbalm of Kennard and Mrs. Julie Johnson of Blair and two grandchildren.

Funeral services were held at the Methodist church in Herman Sunday afternoon at 3 o’clock; the Rev. Litchby of the United Lutheran church of Lincoln officiated, assisted by Rev. A. W. Clarke of the Herman Methodist church. Roland Wachter rendered two vocal solos with Mrs. Helen Nordgren at the piano. Burial was made in the Herman cemetery.

MRS. WACHTER IS BURIED SUNDAY

FORMER HERMAN WOMAN, 64, DIED IN LINCOLN; LEFT HERMAN IN 1923.

Mrs. Matilda Wachter, 64, former Herman resident, died Friday morning at her daughter’s home in Lincoln. She had lived in Lincoln four years, moving there from Omaha, where she had resided since 1923.

Services were held at the Wadlow mortuary in Lincoln, followed by further services at the Herman Methodist church Sunday at 3 p.m., a Lutheran minister from Lincoln officiating. Burial was in Herman cemetery.

Mrs. Wachter, as Matilda Olson, daughter of the late Louis and Cornelia Olson, was born near Herman June 18, 1875. On March 1, 1892, she was married in Blair to Emiel Wachter of Herman. The family moved into Herman in 1910, and the couple operated a grocery store. After Mr. Wachter’s death in 1913, Mrs. Wachter operated the store herself for several years, before moving to Omaha with her daughter.

Surviving Mrs. Wachter are her daughter, Mrs. James Nielsen of Lincoln; two sisters, Mrs. Mary Rosenbaum of Kennard and Mrs. Julie Johnson of Blair; one brother, William Olson of Herman; and two grandchildren.
