Michael J. Prokop, 72

Michael J. Prokop, 72 years, of Fremont, NE died Monday, December 5, 2016, at his home. Michael was born May 6, 1944, in Leigh, NE to Joseph and Velda (Pimpara) Prokop. He graduated from Pius High School in Lincoln, NE and earned his PhD in Animal Nutrition Science at the University of Nebraska at Lincoln. Michael married Mary A. Rezac on June 11, 1966, in Lincoln, NE. The couple lived at Lincoln, Holtville, CA and St. Joseph, MO prior to moving to Fremont in 1985. Michael was operations manager of Liquid Feed Commodities in Fremont and Blair Ag LLC in Blair.

He was a member of St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Fremont, the Knights of Columbus Council 1497, Fremont Rotary Club and Fremont Antique Car Club.

Michael is survived by his wife, Mary; sons, Joseph (Lissa) Prokop of Danville, CA and Jeffrey Prokop of Fremont; daughters, Patricia (Jeffrey) Steffensmeier of Lincoln; Amy Prokop of Chillicothe, MO and Melissa (Jeremy) Mostek of Fremont; sister, Barbara Turner; aunt, Marcella Prokop of Fremont; and 6 grandchildren: Nicholaus, Benjamin and Julia Steffensmeier of Lincoln, Madison and Emma Mostek of Fremont and Jordan Prokop of Danville, CA.

He was preceded in death by his parents and sister, Marcella Halpin.

Memorial Mass will be 10:30 AM, Monday, December 12, 2016, at St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Fremont. Knights of Columbus Rosary will be said at 7 PM on Sunday, December 11, 2016, at Moser Memorial Chapel in Fremont. Memorial visitation on Sunday from 4 PM to 8 PM at the funeral home. Private family interment will be at the Calvary Catholic Cemetery in Lincoln. Memorials may be directed to the family for a charity yet to be determined.
