Walter Leon Hindley, known to his friends as "Linn" Hindley, died Monday at Blair Memorial Hospital. He was 76 years of age.

He was a lifetime resident of Washington County. He was born April 5, 1899 on the Hindley farm two miles south of Blair and lived there all of his life. He was the son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Carl J. Hindley, pioneer residents of the Blair area.

He grew up on the farm and devoted his life to farming. He also had an intense interest in mechanical things and it was a natural turn of events that he should purchase specialized farm equipment and turn to custom farm work for his friends and neighbors. He operated threshing rigs, corn shelling outfits, did custom hay work, plowing and similiar activities.

Machinery, especially tractors, was an attraction to him and years ago he purchased Caterpillar tractors equipped for bulldozer work and he carried on a lively business of excavation of basements for homes and larger buildings. In fact, he dug the basement for the First United Methodist Church from which he was buried Wednesday afternoon.

He was one of the early boosters for the construction of a hospital in Blair and he actively carried on a campaign to get the initial money needed to construct the original part of the hospital building.

He is survived by his wife, Doris. Mr. and Mrs. Hindley were still living on the family farm south of Blair.

A son, Robert Glenn, lives at Murfreesboro, Arkansas; a daughter, Mrs. Pete Nohrenberg (Barbara Anne) lives at Herman and another daughter, Mrs. Mike Salsbury (Carla Mae) lives at Blair. There are 16 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.

There are three sisters: Mrs. Bernice Frazeur, of Grants Pass, Oregon; Mrs. Helen Happel of Tilden, Nebraska; and Mrs. Lillian Chapman of Sunland, California.

Funeral services were held at the First United Methodist Church Wednesday afternoon with the Rev. Gordon Patterson conducting the service. Burial, under the direction of the Bendorf Funeral Home, was made in the Blair Cemetery.

Pallbearers were all grandsons: David, Keith, Devin and Glen Hindley, Raymond Nohrenberg and Pat Salsbury. Find A Grave Memorial # 110859692
