30-year Welder for Kelly Ryan

Howard H. Swaney, 101, died April 2, 2011, in Modale, Iowa. Services were April 7 at the Baptist Church in Mondamin, Iowa, and interment was at the Magnolia (Iowa) Cemetery.

Howard H. Swaney was born Nov. 21, 1909, in Council Bluffs, Iowa, to William C. and Maggie (Zentz) Swaney.

On April 18, 1931, he married Ethel Donnelson. The couple made their home in the Mondamin and Modale areas and were married for 78 years.

Mr. Swaney was a farmer and also was a welder for more than 30 years for Kelly Ryan.

He is survived by his daughters and sons-in-law, Janice and Mike McGaughey of Redding, Calif., Patracia and Kermit Goettsche of Albuquerque, N.M., Maralyn and Norman Clark of Murrieta, Calif., Judy Neary of Branson, Mo., and Linda Scheide of Modale; sons and daughter-in-law, James Swaney of Blair, Dennis and Sherri Swaney of Fremont; 19 grandchildren; numerous great- and great-great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Ethel; and sons, Harvey, Darwin and David.

Hennessy-Aman Funeral Home in Missouri Valley was in charge of arrangements.
