The funeral of Thomas Hines took place from the family residence in Dextervelle last Thursday, Rev. Tingley of the Baptist church officiating.

Mr. Hines was born in Butter county, Pennsylvania in 1847, where he spent his early life. He was married to Miss Isabella M. Carmen and came to Omaha in 1872 where he commenced work as bridge constructor for the U.P. R.R and worked in all the principal cities of the west since 1872.

In the spring of 1893 he moved to Blair with his family where he has since resided.

He had gone to Herman on the afternoon of the cyclone to bid on some work and after the storm, he was taken out of the ruins.

Mr. Hines did the work on the Soldiers' monument with John McKeen.

He leaves a wife and nine children to mourn their loss, six of whom are at home with their mother. Three married daughters reside outside this count, Mrs. B. J.Dunn resides Chicago, Mrs. Cafferty in Omaha and Mrs. Grant Fox in Council Bluffs. A sister of Mr. Hines, Mrs. Spangler of Walnut, Iowa, was here to attend the funeral.

The Woodmen of the World of which he was a member took charge of the services at the grave. Their service is a very impressive one and it was carried out fully. The sorrowing family have the sympathy of the entire community in their sad bereavement.
