Mass of Christian burial will be Saturday, January 7, 2017, at 10:00 AM at St. Francis Borgia Catholic Church with graveside services following at Holy Cross Cemetery in Blair. Visitation will be held Friday, January 6 at Campbell Aman Funeral Home with the family receiving friends from 6 to 8 PM.

Daryl Eugene Ingalsbe was born on May 1st, 1949, to Howard and Lucia Ingalsbe of Battle Creek, NE. He lost his life in a plane crash in Florida on December 27th, 2016. He was a 1967 graduate of Battle Creek High school, then entered the US Army and served his country from May of 1968 through May of 1971. He worked for Northwestern Bell until 1985, when he started his own company, Independent Technologies Corporation. In 2015, ITC celebrated its 30-year anniversary, an extremely proud accomplishment for him.

Daryl obtained his pilot's license in 1992 and flew all over the country for business and pleasure. He was an early owner in the EPIC aircraft company, and built his own EPIC LT in 2009, and that was one of the things he was most proud of. Most recently, he traveled with an EPIC group all the way around the globe on a 21-day world-record setting trip.

Daryl is survived by his three children and their spouses: Steve and Megan Ingalsbe of Dubuque, IA; Chris and Juli Ray; Jason and Beth Rytych; and their mother, Linda Ingalsbe, all of Blair, NE. Grandchildren: Jackson, Maxwell, Halli, Isabelle, Quinn, Corwyn and Charlie. He is also survived by siblings: Ron Ingalsbe of Cozad, NE, Dave (Barb) Ingalsbe of Paynesville, MN, Margie Schaecher of Humphrey, NE, Mary Ann (Dennis) Pavlik of Osmond, NE; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Ray; in-laws, Arvey and Clara Pavlik; brother-in-laws: Charlie Schaecher and Jim Pavlik.

The absolute lights of Daryl's life were his 7 grandchildren. If you were in the room with Daryl and his grandkids, it was hard to tell who adored who the most. Looking back on Daryl's 67 years of life, there are too many accomplishments to list, but if you asked him what his best accomplishment was, he would always say his family.

Daryl was an Army veteran and a lifetime supporter of the armed services. The family requests in lieu of flowers memorials be directed to a veterans organization of the donor's choice in Daryl's name.

Pilot killed in Florida plane crash is a former Nebraskan

By Andrew J. Nelson / World-Herald Staff Writer Updated Dec 29, 2016

A plane crash in Florida on Tuesday killed a former resident of the Blair, Nebraska, area.

Daryl Ingalsbe, president of Blair-based Independent Technologies, was the pilot of a small plane that crashed, said his ex-wife, Linda Ingalsbe of Blair. Daryl Ingalsbe lived in Minnesota and Florida. Two of his three children live in the Blair area, she said.

Also killed was Deb Solsrud, according to the West Central Tribune of Willmar, Minnesota.

Linda Ingalsbe said Solsrud was a friend of her ex-husband.

The Volusia County (Florida) Sheriff’s Office said the plane crashed in a front yard just before 6 p.m. Tuesday while approaching an airport near Port Orange, Florida. No one on the ground was injured.

Federal Aviation Administration spokeswoman Kathleen Bergan said the Epic LT single-engine craft left Millington Regional Jetport near Memphis, Tennessee, on Tuesday afternoon.

An Epic single turboprop owned by Independent Technologies left the Fremont, Nebraska, airport and flew to Minnesota on Monday, according to Flight Aware, a flight tracking service. On Tuesday, it flew from Minnesota to Tennessee and was scheduled to continue to the Florida airport.

Former Blair resident dies in plane crash

Daryl Ingalsbe, the president and CEO of Independent Technologies, Inc., headquartered in Blair, died Tuesday in a plane crash in Florida.

Ingalsbe, 67, was a resident of Spicer, Minn., and Spruce Creek, Fla. who previously lived in Blair. He was flying with close friend Deb Solsrud, 51, of New London, Minn., who was also killed in the crash near his home in Volusia County, east central Florida.

Independent Technologies, founded in 1985, sells communication and diagnostic products for telecommunications, utility and information technology markets. The company released a statement Thursday morning:

"Independent Technologies, Inc. suffered a tragic loss on Tuesday, Dec. 27 when our president, Daryl Ingalsbe, died in a plane crash near his home in Spruce Creek, Fla. We offer our sincerest condolences and prayers to Daryl’s family, friends and his family of employees. We also offer sincerest condolences and prayers to the family and friends of his very good friend, Deb Solsrud of New London, Minn., who also died in the crash."

According to a story published by the West Central Tribune in Willmar, Minn., near Spicer, Ingalsbe and Solsrud were traveling in a 2009 single-engine Epic LT plane owned by Independent Technologies when it "crashed in heavy fog just before 6 p.m. in a front yard in the Spruce Creek Fly-In community of Port Orange, Fla."

According to The Daytona Beach News-Journal, the plane "crashed on go-around after a missed approach," Eric Weiss, spokesman for the National Transportation Safety Board, said.

It had narrowly missed two houses. Photos from the News-Journal show a crane removing parts of the plane from the yard.

The News-Journal reports that the plane flew from the Willmar Municipal Airport into the Millington Regional Airport in Tennessee earlier that day. It had flown from the Fremont Municipal Airport to Willmar on Monday.

Blair resident Linda Ingalsbe was married to Daryl for 41 years. They had three children: two live in Blair and one lives in Iowa. She said they are still awaiting the outcome of the crash investigation.

"We really don't have any information," she said.

Kelly Boldan, editor of the West Central Tribune, told the Enterprise that Solsrud was a "noted member" of the New London and New London-Spicer School community.

She was a charter member and former president of the New London-Spicer Parent Teacher Organization, and was active in youth and school-related events and causes.

Ingalsbe and Solsrud participated in a nine-country, 21-day flying tour this year that was entered into the Guinness Book of World Records.

A 26-person World Odyssey Tour team comprised of Epic Aircraft owners and guests, Epic staff, professional pilots and a documentary film crew departed from Oshkosh, Wis., on July 7. The tour included three continents and two oceans — covering 16,405 nautical miles in 51.5 flight hours and achieving an average ground speed of 318.5 knots.

Ingalsbe housed his plane, which he built in 2009, at Willmar Municipal Airport.

In a story published by the West Central Tribune in October, Ingalsbe, who has been flying since 1990, was asked why he loves aviation.

"It's the world's greatest geography lesson. Period," he said.

Funeral arrangements for Ingalsbe are pending with Campbell Aman Funeral Home in Blair.

A funeral has been scheduled for Solsrud at 11:30 a.m. Tuesday at Max A. Sass & Sons Funeral and Cremation Service's Westwood Chapel in Muskego, Wis. The visitation is from 11 to 11:30 a.m.

The Enterprise will update this story as it develops.

A Mass of Christian burial for Ingalsbe has been scheduled for 10 a.m. Saturday at St. Francis Borgia Catholic Church, Blair, with graveside services following at Holy Cross Cemetery, Blair. Visitation is from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at Campbell Aman Funeral Home, Blair.
