Gerald A. Dick, 64

Gerald A. Dick, 64, of Blair, died Friday, February 1, 2013, at his home.

Mass of Christian burial will be 10:30 a.m. Thursday, February 7, at St. Francis Borgia Catholic Church in Blair. Visitation will be Wednesday beginning at 1 p.m. with family receiving friends from 6 to 8 p.m. and a rosary at 7 p.m. at Campbell-Aman Funeral Home in Blair. Interment will be in the Holy Cross Catholic Cemetery in Blair.

Gerald A. Dick was born October 4, 1948, in Council Bluffs, Iowa, to Earl A. Dick Sr. and Beulah (Swanger) Dick.

He grew up in California Junction, Iowa.

He followed in his father’s footsteps and became a journeyman operating engineer out of Local 234 in 1969. He had 44 years in the union.

He was a world-renowned “hoe hand.” He worked on many natural gas pipelines and would do or dig things that your average hoe hand wouldn’t even attempt. There was no mountain too steep or no water too deep. He left no debt unpaid (pipe liner code).

In 1969, he met “his bride," Denise Schroeder. They were married in 1971 in Blair. They built a loving family together and raised four boys, who all learned his unwavering work ethic and skill. They all followed in his footsteps with their trade.

He was an amazing, generous and kind spirit. He had a knack for making others laugh, whether they were in the mood or not. His practical jokes were the most creative and memorable.

His favorite job was being a grandpa. He will always be loved and missed.

He is survived by his wife, Denise of Blair; sons and daughters-in-law, Gerald A. Dick Jr. "T.J." and Leah of Blair, Jason Dick of West Union, W.Va.; Jeffrey and Jennifer Dick of Kimball, S.D., Josh and Rhonda Dick of Blair; grandchildren, Jason Jr., William, Ayden, Wyatt, Bo, Atticus, Justice, Weston, Taylor and Axel Gerald; brothers and sisters, Earl Dick Jr., Eva Stratton, Marie Gore, Vera Taylor, Judy Roland, Janice Long, June Theye, Linda Drage and Dennis Dick.

He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Leroy Dick and Bobby Dick; sister, Loretta Thomas; and an infant brother, Eddie Dick.

Services 10:30 am Thursday at St. Francis Borgia Catholic Church in Blair. Visitation will be held Wednesday beginning 1pm, with family receiving friends 6-8pm, and a Rosary at 7 pm, all at Campbell Aman Funeral Home in Blair.
