Daniel Martin Beck, 95 of Blair, died Jan. 17, 2017 at Autumn Pointe Assisted Living in Ft. Calhoun.

Memorial Services will be held Monday Jan. 23, at 1 p.m. at Campbell Aman Funeral Home in Blair. Visitation will be held one hour prior to services.

Daniel Martin Beck was born one of four children to Alvin and Effie (Spann) Beck on Sept. 1, 1921 in West Point, NE. Dan spent his first few years in West Point before moving to a farm near La Mars, IA with his mother Effie and step father Charles Wilde. He enlisted in the Army at Atchison, KS and served his country on the Ulithi Atoll in the Caroline Islands of the South Pacific Ocean. After 34 months of service in WWII he attended barber school in Sioux City, IA and met and married Virginia Bathurst on July 22, 1947. Into this union three children were born before they moved to Blair. Dan and his brother Art owned and operated the Beck Barber Shop for many years on Washington Street where he perfected his gift of gab and made many lifelong friends.

Dan was preceded in death by his parents; siblings; son-in-law Danny Adkins Sr.; grandson John Adkins; and the love of his life for 68 years, Virginia.

"Grumpy" will be dearly missed by his children: Daniel R. Beck of Mexico Beach, FL, Cheryl Adkins of Omaha, Steven (Jean) Beck of Blair; grandsons: Danny R. (Diane) Adkins Jr of Omaha, Charles Adkins of Omaha; great grandchildren: Derrick (Cassy) Adkins of Council Bluffs, IA, Zachary Adkins and partner Alicia of Omaha, and loving extended family and many treasured friends.
