Mary Echtenkamp, 100

Mary Echtenkamp, 100, of Wayne, died Jan. 31, 2002 at Premier Estates Senior Living Community in Wayne.

Funeral services were Saturday, Feb. 2, at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Wakefield, with the Rev. Brian Handrich officiating. Interment was at Immanuel Lutheran Cemetery in Wakefield.

Mary Echtenkamp was born Jan. 19, 1902, on a farm near Arlington to John and Anna (Hilgenkamp) Knecht.

She was baptized and confirmed at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, north of Arlington. She attended St. Paul’s parochial school.

On Sept. 27, 1925, she married Herman Echtenkamp at St. Paul’s. The couple made their home on a farm northeast of Wayne where they farmed for 40 years.

Mrs. Echtenkamp moved into Wayne in 1969 and lived in her own home until moving to Premier Estates Senior Living Community in 1997. She belonged to the neighborhood card club, and enjoyed playing cards, quilting, crocheting, sewing and her flower gardens.

She is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, Larry H. and Judy Echtenkamp of Wayne, a daughter and son-in-law, Faye and Donald Koch of Sioux City, Iowa, seven grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband, four brothers and four sisters.

Memorials are suggested to Immanuel Lutheran Church.

Schumacher-Hasemann Funeral Home in Wayne was in charge of arrangements.
