Dave Rogert, 65

Dave W. Rogert was born to Arnold “Sonny” and Virginia (West) Rogert on July 31, 1951, in Blair, Nebraska. He passed away February 8, 2017, surrounded by his family, at his home near Herman, Nebraska.

He grew up on the Rogert Family Farm west of Herman. He attended Brodersen School and graduated from Herman High in 1969. He obtained his Associate Degree in Tool and Die from Southeast Community College in Milford. Upon the sudden passing of Sonny in the winter of 1971, Dave returned to the farm to begin his life as a farmer, husband, dad and grandpa. He married his high school sweetheart, Diane Hansen, on January 29, 1972. They raised their two boys, Kent and Kevin, in the same house Dave grew up in.

Dave loved being a farmer and loved teaching his boys to farm alongside him. They were both driving tractors just as soon as they could reach the pedals. When the chores were done, they often set off to Cameron’s pond to catch their supper. Mom loved cleaning the fish.

Dave loved to play cards and craps and go on fishing trips with his buddies. When he was younger, he enjoyed trips to Minnesota in the summer. In his later years, the favorite spot was on the Niobrara River up near Verdel. There are lots of stories to be told from those trips.

What he enjoyed more than anything later in life were his grandchildren. Carson and Adison were the topic of his conversations everywhere he went. He enjoyed taking them fishing and for tractor rides and teaching them to play cards as well. Their visits to their new home near Herman were precious to Dave.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

He is survived by a loving family: wife of 45 years, Diane; sister, Cathy Rogert Williamsen of Blair, NE; mother-in-law, Elva Hansen of Blair; brother-in-law, Larry (Marla) Hansen of Herman; sons, Kent of Tekamah; Kevin (Jodi) of Shawnee, KS, and their children, Carson and Adison; and his trusty pal, Rufus the beagle.

The funeral service was Saturday, February 11, 2017, 11:00 am, at the Tekamah City Auditorium in Tekamah.

Visitation was Saturday, 9:30 – 11:00 am, at the Tekamah City Auditorium.

Burial will be at a later date, Herman Cemetery.

Memorials can be made to the family for later designation.
