Mildred Wachter Bloch, 84

Mildred Wachter Bloch, 84, of Arlington, died Tuesday, Jan. 9, 2001 in Springfield, Missouri.

Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. on Saturday, Jan. 13 at the Arlington Community Church, with the Rev. Lynn Martin officiating. Interment will be in the Herman Cemetery. Visitation will be 1 p.m. to 9 p.m. at the Ludvigsen Mortuary in Fremont.

Mildred Laura Peppmiller Wachter Bloch was born July 16, 1916 in Dodge County, Nebraska, the 10th child of Henry and Caroline Boschult.

After her mother’s death when she was 11 ½ months old, she was adopted by her paternal aunt and uncle Fredricka and August Peppmiller.

She graduated from Herman High School in 1933 and from the University of Nebraska in 1937 with a B.S. in Bacteriology, and in 1938 with a degree in Medical Technology, MT (ASCP) was a relatively new field at the time.

On June 2, 1940, she was married to Roland Matthews Wachter in Lincoln; he preceded her in death in 1958.

Mrs. Wachter was, for many years, the administrative director of the laboratory at the former Dodge County Community Hospital (now the Fremont Area Medical Center). She also developed and taught a lecture and laboratory course in microbiology at Midland Lutheran College in Fremont.

She was member of the Arlington Community Church and of the Tekamah Chapter No. 131 Order of the Eastern Star of Tekamah.

On August 27, 1975, she married Dr. David Bloch, who had a medical practice in Arlington for many years. He preceded her in death in 1991.

She is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, Dr. Ronald and Sheryl Wachter of Springfield, Missouri, a daughter and son-in-law, Janet Kay and (retired) Brig. Gen. Harold Nelson of Carlisle, Pennsylvania, five grandchildren, three great-grandchildren, one sister Delsie Meierhenry of Lincoln, an aunt, Myrtle Boschult of Fremont, and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her brothers, Edgar, Wilbur, Alfred, and Elmer Boschult, and sisters Ella “Peggy” Borchers, Roma Schluntz, Helen Johnson, and Loretta Boschult.

Ludvigsen Mortuary in Fremont was in charge of arrangements.
