Richard C. Mester, 87

'Great Man Loved By Many'

Richard C. Mester, 87, of Fort Calhoun, died April 12, 2011, in Omaha.

A funeral Mass will be held at 10 a.m. Friday, April 15, at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Fort Calhoun. Interment will be in the Fort Calhoun Cemetery with an honor guard provided by the Fort Calhoun American Legion Post No. 348.

Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Thursday, with a vigil service at 7p.m. at Sievers-Sprick Funeral Home.

Richard C. "Papa" Mester was born Nov. 6, 1923, in Portsmouth, Iowa. He married Margaret Alice Dixon on Oct. 31, 1972, in Fort Calhoun. Mr. Mester had lived in Fort Calhoun since 1972; he previously resided in Inglewood, Calif.

He is survived by his daughters, Janet McGregor of Fort Calhoun, Janice Campbell of Omaha; four grandchildren, Candy, Noelle, Richard and Michelle; five great-grandchildren; many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Margaret; nine brothers and sisters; and a granddaughter, Nicole Lee Nasr-Johnson.

Memorials are suggested to St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, or the American Red Cross-Mapleton, Iowa, Relief Fund.
