Former Fremont Resident

Robert E. Jewell, 78, of Onawa, Iowa, died April 11, 2011, in Onawa.

Services were Friday, April 15, at the Rush Family Chapel in Onawa. Interment was in the Blair Cemetery.

Robert E. Jewell was born May 17, 1932, in Fairfax, S.D., to Charles and Helen (Berg) Jewell. The family moved to Fremont, where he graduated from Fremont High School.

He worked at the Safeway grocery store in Fremont before moving to Minneapolis, Minn., where he was employed at Kroger Food and also managed Earl Brown Apartments. He later worked at MCI in Sergeant Bluff, Iowa.

Mr. Jewell was a member of Faith Lutheran Church in Onawa and was active on the church council and also Good Shepherd Lutheran in Fremont.

He is survived by his son and daughter-in-law, Brian and Shelley Jewell of McCook Lake, S.D.; four grandchildren; sister and brother-in-law, Gwen and Bill Rasmussen of Blair; sister-in-law, Jan Jewell of Trivole, Ill.; stepfather, Ralph Brown of Blair; many nieces and nephews; special friend, Lillian Whitehorn of Onawa.

He was preceded in death by two brothers, Don C. and Gerald. E. Jewell, who died in infancy.
