In Loving Memory of Bob Brothers

July 3, 1947 ~ February 15, 2017

Robert “Bob” Eugene Brothers was born on July 3, 1947 to Robert Merrell Brothers and Betty Mencke Brothers in Blair, Nebraska. After living a short while in Blair, Bob moved with his family to the town where he would be raised, Missouri Valley, IA. Bob had two siblings: Roxanne (born in 1952) and Donald Dean (born in 1960). In Missouri Valley, this small farming family of five steadily grew into quite an abundant group, with many amazing friends that were considered part of the Brothers family unit as well.

Bob graduated from Missouri Valley High School in 1965. While attending Mo. Valley High, he was introduced to his former spouse, Catherine Louise Ward. The couple married on June 16, 1967. Bob and Catherine relocated to attend college at Northwest Missouri State University in Merryville, MO. Throughout this time, Bob was also giving his service to the military through the United States Army Reserves from the years of 1966-1972.

Bob and Catherine eventually moved to Omaha, NE, where Bob was able to find a rewarding career at Union Pacific Railroad while working in departments such as: Marketing and Timekeeping. Bob and Catherine had two children, Todd Robert (born in 1976) and Kimberly Kay (born in 1978). Bob maintained many hobbies throughout his life, including: fishing, boating, and water skiing. He also participated in a lot of recreational team sports during his adult life, for instance: bowling, softball, and volleyball. Nevertheless, Bob’s absolute favorite pastime was snowmobiling. This fervor for finding solace in the snow forever stayed with him and he loved to share this passion with friends and family through snowmobile retreats.

After complications from peripheral vascular disease in his legs had seized Bob’s ability to walk, an infection settled into the bloodstream and caused terminal sickness. Bob was peacefully laid to rest on the evening of February 15, 2017, at home, in the company of his family and close friends.

Bob was preceded in death by his parents, Robert M. and Betty Brothers. Left to cherish his memory: his beloved children Todd (Jenni) Brothers and Kimberly (Chad) Beisheim; grandchildren, Bailey, Andrew and Broderic; sister, Roxanne (former spouse, Herb) Duysen; brother, Donald Brothers; nephews, Chad (Patty) Duysen, Aaron Duysen; great-nephews Zachary, Logen, and Justin; and numerous loving friends.
