Virginia Jean Dolan died March 4, 2017, at age 96. She was born January 8, 1921, of Goldia and Warren Dolan in Lewellen, Garden County, Nebraska. Virginia graduated from Lincoln High School in 1938. She then attended and graduated from the University of Nebraska College of Business Administration in 1943.

She was proceeded in death by her mother, Goldia Alice (Simpson) Dolan, and father, Warren Edgar Dolan. Survivors include a cousin, Wayne Simpson.

Services will be held 10:00 a.m. on Friday, March 10 at Butherus, Maser & Love, located at 4040 A Street, Lincoln. Burial will follow at the Blair, Nebraska cemetery, also on Friday, March 10 at 1:00 p.m. Memorials will be to St. Paul United Methodist Church in Lincoln.

Virginia Jean Dolan is the daughter of Goldia Alice Simpson, formerly of Blair. She married Warren Edgar Dolan prior to his service in France during the First World War. They were married on June 24, 1918, in or near Newport News, Virginia. Warren at one time lived between Arlington and Kennard, where the Dolans had a farm.

Goldia Simpson was the 2nd child of Frank Stacy and Margaret Lillian Simpson, born in 1892. The first child was Clarence Simpson, born in 1890. The youngest child was Harvey Vernon Simpson, former mayor of Blair, born in 1901.

When Harvey’s youngest son, Wayne, was a high school student at Blair High School, Virginia would buy a single ticket to University of Nebraska football games. Wayne would take the bus by way of Fremont and be met in Lincoln at the bus depot by Virginia. She would provide the ticket to the game. His first game, seated in the east balcony (tickets were easier to come by then), was in 1948 when UCLA beat Nebraska 27 to 15 in front of 36,000 fans.

The closest relatives to Virginia were her cousin, Luella George, and Luella’s daughter, Shirley Nance. Both are gone now, but Shirley’s children, Amy Thompson and Kirk Nance, are still with us. Amy and family recently visited Virginia on the occasion of her 96th birthday. Also, Curtiss Rolland and siblings, Brent and Mindy, are related to the family of Virginia Dolan. Marilyn Rolland was a cousin of Virginia. Other descendants on the Dolan side could not be found.
