Laverne Whitmer, 70

Laverne Whitmer, 70, of Fremont, passed away February 26, 2017, at her home in Fremont, Nebraska.

An interment service will be held at a later date to be announced. Moser Memorial Chapel in Fremont will be handling the arrangements.

Laverne was born in Bee, Nebraska to John and Evelyn Stoupa on February 12, 1947. She graduated from Fremont Senior High School, where she was awarded the Bookkeeper of the Year award, which she later enjoyed seeing each of her sons also receive. She went on to work in Fremont at Pendleton Woolen Mills before co-founding Whitmer Welding Supplies, where she enjoyed the conversations she had with customers for over forty years. Above all, she was an honest, hard-working, and smart woman who unconditionally loved her family and grandchildren.

Laverne was preceded in death by her parents and one brother, Raymond Stoupa.

Laverne is survived by her husband, John of Fremont; her two sons, Brian (wife Heather) of Denville, New Jersey and Darin (wife Ashley) of Fremont; three grandchildren, Preston, Marin, and Masin; and brother, Richard Stoupa of Fremont.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to The Bridge, 141 S. Union Street, Fremont, Nebraska, of which Laverne was particularly fond of supporting.
