Mary Ann M. Hoefler, 59, of Blair died Tuesday, Feb. 1, 2000, at Memorial Community Hospital.

Mass of Christian burial will be at 10 a.m., Saturday, Feb. 5, at St. Francis Borgia Catholic Church. Burial will be in the Holy Cross Cemetery in Blair. A Rosary will be said at 7 p.m. Friday, Feb. 4, at Campbell-Aman Funeral Home.

Mary Ann Hoefler was born July 4, 1940, to Everett and Helen (Venner) Meister in Carroll, Iowa.

On Dec. 28, 1968, she was married to Andrew Hoefler in Carroll, Iowa. They made their home in Blair since 1972. She graduated from Kuemper Catholic High School in Carroll, Iowa, in 1958, as valedictorian of her class. She received her bachelor of science degree in nursing in 1962 from Creighton University. She graduated Summa Cum Laude and received the President's Scholarships. She then worked as a staff nurse at the Nebraska Psychiatric Institute in Omaha.

She received her master's of science in nursing, specializing in psychiatric mental health nursing at the the Catholic University of America School of Nursing in Washington, D.C.

She received a joint appointment as assistant professor of nursing to faculties of UNMC College of Medicine and College of Nursing. She was also an associate professor of nursing at Creighton University School of Nursing.

In 1974, she became associated with the College of St. Mary in Omaha, and held the following positions: coordinator of mental health nursing, vice chairman of the nursing division, coordinator of baccalaureate program development, BSN program director, acting chair of the division of nursing, chair of the division of nursing, and dean of the school of health care professions. She retired on July 31, 1999.

She was a member of the Nebraska State Board of Nursing, serving two terms as president; was a chair of the Nebraska Assembly of Deans and directors of the School of Nursing. On Sept. 27, 1997, she received the Alumni Achievement Award from Creighton University, and was awarded Professor Emerita of Nursing on May 15, 1999.

She was a member of St. Francis Borgia Catholic Church. She served on the Parish Council, served as lecture, and taught CCD classes.

She is survived by her husband Andrew of Blair; three daughters and a son-in-law, Susan and Benjamin Coster of Allen, Texas; Julianne Hoefler, of St. Paul, Minn.; and Francine Hoefler of Juneau, Alaska; and a sister and brother-in-law, Norma and Stephen Baumhover of Panora, Iowa. She was preceded in death by her parents, Helen and Everett Meister.
