On Friday morning Mrs. Ellen Hogan was found dead in bed at her home in Blair; she was seventy-eight years of age.

Ellen Kane was born August 15, 1834, in County Limerick, Ireland and was married to Patrick Hogan of Tipperary.

They came to America, landing at Castle Garden Nov. 20, 1856 and a year later came to Lyons, Iowa, where they resided for eleven years. In July of that year they homesteaded a piece of land, living in ??? and endured the hardship and ???? incedent to early settlers. They have resided in the vicinity of Blair during all of these years with the exception of a few years in Missouri and Illinois.

Mrs. Hogan was the mother of twelve children, six of whom are living. Her three sons, Thomas, David and Dan were in attendance at the funeral, as well as one daughter, Mrs. Cooper of Lincoln. Two others daughters, residing in California found it impossible to be present at the obsequies.

The funeral was held Monday at ten o'clock in the Catholic church at which time high mass was celebrated, Father O'Driscoll officiating.

The death of this woman closes a life full of interesting events and a good wife and mother has gone to her reward.

Mrs. Patrick Hogan was found dead in her bed last Friday morning, probably from heart failure during the night. The funeral was held at the Catholic church at 10 o'clock Monday morning, Rev. Father O'Driscoll officiating. Miss Ella Kane was born near Limerick, Ireland, Aug. 15, 1834, and was therefore past 78 years of age. She was married to Patrick Hogan April 7th, 1856, at Tipperary and came to America in November of that year, settling first at Lyons, Ia. They came to Washington county in 1868 and lived on a homestead for a time, afterwards making their home in this city. Mr. Hogan died about eighteen years ago. But six of the twelve children born to them are now living: three sons, Dave, Dan and Tom, and three daughters, Maggie and Mary, who are now married and live in California, and Mrs. Grace Cooper, of Lincoln, who with her husband was here to attend the funeral.
