Former Arlington resident Alex Hofmann Jr., 72, of Lincoln, died Nov. 12, 2000, at Madonna Rehabilitation Hospital in Lincoln.

Funeral services will be held 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, Nov. 15, at St. Paul's Lutheran Church, north of Arlington. The Rev. Dennis Maaske will officiate. Interment will be at St. Paul's Lutheran Cemetery.

Visitation will be held from 1 p.m. to 8 pm. on Tuesday, Nov. 14, at Reckmeyer-Moser Funeral Home in Arlington, and at the church on Wednesday, one hour prior to services.

Alex Hofmann Jr. was born Oct 12, 1928, in Glenwood, Iowa to Alexander and Marie (Scheu) Hofmann.

He grew up in Glenwood and was a graduate of Glenwood High School. He worked with his father in bakeries in Glenwood. He moved to Fremont in 1958, and purchased the Gambles Store in Arlington. He moved to Arlington in 1959, and operated the Gambles Hardware Store until retiring in 1991. Mr. Hofmann then moved to Lincoln.

On July 12, 1953, he married Donna Mae Buckendahl in Omaha.

Mr. Hofmann was a member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church, and was a member of the Fremont Antique Car Club. He also served in the Nebraska National Guard.

He is survived by his son and daughter-in-law, John and Nancy Hofmann of St. Louis, Mo.; two daughter and sons-in-law, LeAnn Hofmann and Todd Halle of Bee, and Patricia and Chris Lofgren of Lincoln; a sister, Erna Munsinger of Council Bluffs, Iowa; sister-in-law, Blanche Hofmann of Papillion; five grandchildren; and his mother-in-law, Frieda Buckendahl of Norfolk.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Donna; a brother, Werner Hofmann, and a granddaughter, Keri Hofmann.

Memorials are suggested to the Nebraska chapter of the Alzheimer's Foundation.

Reckmeyer-Moser Funeral Home in Arlington is in charge of arrangements.
