Allen A. Kohlmeier, Jr., 90

Allen Arthur Kohlmeier, Jr. was born in Norfolk on Feb. 13, 1927, and passed away March 17, 2017.

He was preceded in death by mothers Alice (Byerly) Sloan and Lillian (Ackerman) Kohlmeier, father Allen Arthur Kohlmeier, Sr., great-uncle and great-aunt Bill and Effie (Beckenbaugh) Ketchmark.

He is survived by his wife Ellen (Nicholson) Kohlmeier; children Peggy Hiykel of Blair, Robert (Roxanne) Kohlmeier, Kathleen (Larry) Reynolds, Joleen (Terry) Williams all of Omaha; brother-in-law J. Morton (Barbara) Nicholson of Cincinnati, Ohio; 10 grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren and 2 great-great grandchildren.

Allen was raised by his great-uncle and great-aunt Ketchmark in Ft. Calhoun from the age of 6 until adulthood. He was a U.S. Army WWII veteran and also signed up for a second tour of duty when WWII ended. After leaving the army, he lived in Blair and then moved his family to Omaha, where he resided until his death. He retired from Fruehauf Trailer Corporation in Omaha.

Allen was a kind, helpful, quiet and gentle spirited person. He loved his wife and family dearly. He spent much of his time helping others, working on cars and fixing anything that was broken. He was also a Nebraska football fan and enjoyed many hours of watching Nebraska football with his wife. Allen and his wife Ellen were married for 69 years. No immediate services are planned as he donated his body to science. Memorials can be directed to the Washington County Historical Museum, PO Box 25, Ft. Calhoun, NE 68023.
