Stanley Merle Carnes, 87

Stanley Merle Carnes, 87, of Blair passed away on April 13, 2017, at his home in Blair. Visitation will be held Sunday, April 16, 2017, from 6 to 8 p.m. at Campbell Aman Funeral Home in Blair. Funeral services will be Monday, April 17 at 10:30 a.m. at Campbell Aman Funeral Home. Graveside Services will follow at the Blair Cemetery.

Stanley M. Carnes was born on April 24, 1929, in Neligh, Nebraska to Sterling and Hilda (Bickford) Carnes. He was raised in the Neligh area and started school in Pilger, later moving to Omaha and attending North High School. He was drafted into the United States Army and served during the Korean War. Stan was honorably discharged from the Army in 1951.

After the Army, he purchased a farm in the Fort Calhoun area and also started painting. He had his painting business for over 50 years. In June of 1967, he met Betty Mencke when he was hired to paint her kitchen. The couple married on September 30, 1967, at First Lutheran Church in Blair. Stanley enjoyed building miniature train sets, painting, going on camping and boating trips with the family, gardening and growing flowers.

Stanley is survived by his wife of 49 years, Betty Carnes of Blair; children: Tom (Teresa) Mencke of Blair, Stanley (Katie) Mencke of Tekamah, Randy (Leisha) Mencke of Broomfield, CO, and Bonnie (Ken) Wulf of Blair; several grandchildren and great-grandchildren; sister, Marian McTee of Omaha; brother, Robert Carnes of Elgin, NE; sister-in-law, Mary Vogel of Omaha; brother-in-law, Robert Masters of Kennard; many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Melvin Carnes; sister, Joy Phillips; and great-granddaughter Isabelle Thallas.

Memorials may be directed to organizations of the donor's choice in Stanley's name.

Arrangements are being handled by Campbell Aman Funeral Home, Blair.
