Sylvester M. “Cy” Dungan, 75 of Pierson, Iowa went to be with his Lord on Thursday, August 22nd, at 4:34 p.m. in the Marian Health Center Sioux City, Iowa following a brief illness. Sylvester was born November 12, 1920 at Missouri Valley, Iowa to Miles and Ella (Heath) Dungan. He graduated from Missouri Valley High School in 1938. He was married to Mary Brown on July 16, 1939 in Cherokee, Iowa. He had lived in the Pierson area since 1987, in Norfolk, Nebraska for 3 years, and in Frost, Texas from 1973 until 1984. He had worked as a farm hand in this area, for Simonsens in Quimby for several years, sold insurance for B.M.A. Insurance Co. from 1953 until 1965 in Iowa and Nebraska and worked for Collection Service Bureau for several years. While living in Texas, he owned and operated a ranch and construction company, and raised Appaloosa horses. He and his wife raised several foster children in their home. He was a member of the Pierson Christian Church. He was preceded in death by his parents, a daughter Mary Ellen, a foster son Dennis Donaldson, 4 brothers Howard, Carwood, Miles Jr. and Joddy; and 2 sisters Lila Monte and Sandra Dungan in infancy. He is survived by his wife, Mary, 4 daughters and 1 son: Donna & Alfred Steiner of Spirit Lake, Iowa; Twyla & Joe Card of Milford, Texas; Sally Mercado of Norfolk, Nebraska; Vicki & Dan Roepke of Norfolk, Nebraska; Richard & Mary Dungan of Norfolk, Nebraska; a foster son: Patrick & Tiffany Donaldson of Norfolk, Nebraska; 25 grandchildren, 25 great grandchildren, 1 brother and 2 sisters: David & Barbara Dungan of Kansas City, Kansas; Jeannine Mancil of Fairbanks, Alaska; Delores & Ed Peters of Blair, Nebraska; also many nieces and nephews.
