Gustav H. Holling, 76, of Arlington, died Tuesday, Feb. 8, 2005, at he A.J. Merrick Manor in Fremont.

Funeral services are 2 p.m. Friday, Feb. 11, at St. Paul's Lutheran Church with the Rev. Rick Kanoy officiating. Interment will be at St. Paul's Cemetery. Visitation began Thursday, and will also be held one hour prior to services at the church.

Gustav H. "Gus" Holling was born March 14, 1928, in rural Bennington to Henry and Clara (Dreessen) Holling. He grew up on a farm near Bennington.

On March 17, 1948, he married Rosemary "Bunny" Purcell at Zion Lutheran Church south of Bennington.

He farmed for 25 years and then owned a real estate sales business and eventually became a real estate broker, operating Tri County Real Estate in Arlington. He was later employed by Taylor & Martin in Fremont for several years prior to owning and operating the Lantern Lounge in Arlington for 17 years. He then worked with his daughter's family in their farming and dairy business.

He was a member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church since 1977; he served as the cemetery sexton at St. Paul's Cemetery and served several terms on the finance board of St. Paul's Lutheran Church.

He is survived by his wife, Bunny; son and daughter-in-law, Merle and Judi Holling; and daughter and son-in-law, Kathy and Milton Hilgenkamp, all of Arlington; two brothers and a sister-in-law, Jerald Holling of Brady and the Rev. Ronald and Judy Holling of Omaha; brother-in-law, Melvin Tiedje of Bennington; and three grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by a sister, Mary Ann Tiedje; and sister-in-law, Julie Holling.

Memorials are suggested to St. Paul's Lutheran Church or the donor's choice. Reckmeyer-Moser Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Ronald (and wife, Judy) Holling of Omaha; a brother-in-law, Melvin Tiedje of Bennington; and three grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by a sister and a sister-in-law.

The Rev. Rick Kanoy will officiate Friday's service. Visitation will be from 2-8 p.m. today and 9-11 a.m. Friday with family receiving friends from 6:30-8 p.m. today, all at Reckmeyer-Moser Funeral Home in Arlington. Visitation will continue one hour prior to service time at the church. Interment will be in St. Paul's Lutheran Cemetery, north of Arlington.

A memorial has been established to St. Paul's Lutheran Church.
