Richard Eugene Hancock, age 83, passed away May 20, 2017 in Tekamah, Nebraska. A memorial service will be held Friday May 26, 2017 at the Herman American Legion Hall at 10:00AM. Visitation will be held Thursday May 25 from 7:00 to 9:00PM, with a Masonic Service at 7:00PM at Campbell Aman Funeral Home in Blair.

Richard Eugene Hancock was born May 30, 1933 to James Paul and LaVerne (Jensen) Hancock. He graduated from Herman High School and attended Dana College for 2 years. Prior to being drafted by the Army he married his fiancée Patty Lou Farrens on March 28, 1953. Returning to the states he immediately started working in his dad’s farming enterprise. The family lived in Herman until 1960 when they moved to the Hancock home farm. They lived on the family farm for 57 years.

He is survived by Patty Hancock, his wife of 64 years. His children, Jacquelin (Jack) Stern of Raymond, NE, Joyce Top (Frederick Hirschman) of Port Charlotte, FL, and son Jeffery (Cora) of Suffolk, Va, daughter in law Sharon Hancock of Fremont, NE, 11 grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his in laws, brother Jim and his son John, granddaughter Stephanie Vittitoe and great granddaughter Sophia Biltoft.

Memorials may be directed to the family for later distributions.

(two photos, including barn) Richard Eugene Hancock was born on May 30, 1933 to Paul and LaVern (Jensen) Hancock. Richard passed away on May 20, 2017.

He was a graduate from Herman High School. He then attended Dana College for two years. His weekend activities were to hang out with Frankie Korshoj and Bud Iverson attending the Arlington Dances.

On March 28, 1953, he married Patty Lou Farrens before leaving to serve in the U.S. Army.

Upon returning to the United States the family lived in Herman, and he joined his father’s farming endeavors.

January 7, 1960 the family moved to the Hancock home farm where he lived out his life enjoying all forms of news, sports, ice cream, cookies, and feeding his birds.

His involvement in the Herman Community consisted of joining: Land Mark Lodge #222 where he served as Master in 1973; Order of the Eastern Star #216 where he served as Worthy Patron; Member of the Jackson Peck Legion where he received his 60 years pin.

As a Shriner, he and Cameron Jackson would yearly take the Herman Boy Scout Troop to the Shrine Circus. Aldo, returning from the summer camping trip, the troop was treated to a Pancake Breakfast at the Village Inn.

He loved his family and joyfully welcomed each new addition. He even joined his wife in many of her garden club activities and became a favorite non-member.
