OSCAR HOPKINS DIES ON COAST

Oscar Hopkins, a one-time Blair man, died at Tracy California, Monday, May 30th, it has been reported here this week. He was 68 years old.

Mr. Hopkins is best remembered by Blair folks as a long-time clerk in the Arndt Hardware. He left here about 18 years ago and became an engineer on the Southern Pacific railroad. He lived at Tracy, California.

He is survived by a daughter, Mrs. Alfred Hart, of Ogden, Utah, and a daughter, Mrs. Harold Frain, of Modesto, California. His wife also survives.

Funeral services are being held at Tracy today and the body will be shipped to Ogden for services and burial Saturday, June 3rd.

OSCAR M. HOPKINS BORN HERE IN 1892

Oscar Miles Hopkins, former Blair man who died recently, was born April 4, 1892 in Blair, Nebraska. He was the youngest of 13 children of Miles and Sarah Hopkins. All have preceded him in death.

He grew to manhood in Blair, attending the city schools, Dana College and Gaydou Business College.

He started working part-time at the Arndt Hardware at 13 years of age. After finishing school, he became a fulltime employee of the store, where he worked until March, 1943. At this time he moved to Ogden, Utah, where he became a warehouseman at Hill Air Force Base.

In August, 1945 he moved to Tracy, Calif., where he became an employee of the Southern Pacific Railroad, fulfilling a life-long ambition.

He became a member of the Masonic Lodge in Blair in 1927. He was also a member of the Brotherhood of Locomotive Firemen and Engineers at Tracy, Calif.

He was married to Adelena Patti Nelson, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. C. John Nelson, on Sept. 15, 1915. She preceded him in death in 1948. To this union two daughters were born, Mrs. Gerold (Evelyn) Frain of Modesto, Calif., and Mrs. Alfred Hart (Gwendolyn) of Ogden, Utah. They survive him.

On Jan. 31, 1951, he was united in marriage to Mrs. Mary Lou Larsen of Honolulu, Hawaii at Ogden, Utah. She also survives.

He also leaves six grandchildren and several nieces and nephews to mourn his passing.

Death came on May 30th, 1961 at the Southern Pacific Hospital in San Francisco, Calif.

Masonic services were held on June 1 in Tracy, Calif., with graveside services in Ogden, Utah on June 3rd. Interment was in the Ogden Cemetery.
