Clarence Hoppel

Clarence Hoppel, a former Blair business man, died at his home at Siloam Springs, Arkansas last Monday, March 3rd. (Mr. Hoppel’s headstone has his death date of 2/24/1975) Death was attributed to a heart attack.

Mr. Hoppel was 67. He was born on a farm near Fremont May 26, 1907. As a young man he worked with the Mobil Oil Co. in Fremont area. Later he became affiliated with L.L. Snyder in the operation of Nebraska-Iowa Oil Company at Blair. Some years later Hoppel and Arthur Johnson purchased the business and operated it from 1947 until 1956. At that time, they sold the business in Champlin Oil Co. in one of the largest business deals made in this area.

After the sale of the business, Mr. Hoppel made several moves and was involved in several types of business. He operated a gravel pit in Iowa; operated a soft water business in Arizona and later was in the motel business.

He is survived by his widow, Virginia; a daughter, Connie of Council Bluffs, and a brother Howard, of Fremont.

Funeral services were held at Siloam Springs, Arkansas.
