Birdsall, Gerald Duane "Jerry" May 1, 1936 - May 19, 2017 Age 81, passed away on Friday, May 19th 2017 in Council Bluffs, IA. Jerry was born in Mondamin, IA, on May 1, 1936 to Floyd R. and Valda (Davis) Birdsall. Jerry was raised in Mondamin and graduated from Mondamin High School in 1954. He then joined the Air Force in 1955 and served his country for four years. He was stationed in Tripoli, North Africa and visited Athens, Greece on leave. After his discharge in 1959 he worked as a metal former at Fruehauf in Omaha, NE, for 32 years. Jerry married his first wife, Sally Hunsche, becoming a stepfather to her two children Bob and Barb Hunsche. From that union a son, Christopher Birdsall, was born in 1973. In 1992 Jerry married his second wife, Cindy Long, becoming a stepfather to her son Aeon Long. From that union a daughter, Ronda Long-Birdsall, was born. Jerry retired from Fruehauf and became "Mr. Mom" actively participating in Ronda's schooling and driving her to various extra curricular activities. Jerry enjoyed singing, camping with family, walking his dog Baxter and catching up with friends. Jerry is survived by his wife, Cindy, and daughter, Ronda, of Council Bluffs, IA; his son, Christopher of Blair, NE; his stepsons, Aeon (Cheryl) Long of Watford, ND; and Bob Hunsche of Kansas City, KS; his sister, Yvonne Teske of Elizabeth City, NC; brothers-in-law: Don Munhofen of Sloan, IA; Doug (Sheila) Long of Iowa Falls, IA; David Long of Rochester, IA; P.J. Fisher of Coon Rapids, IA; Pat Fisher of Coon Rapids, IA; Steve Fisher of Waterloo, IA; sister-in-law, Sarah Saunders of Coon Rapids, IA; father-in-law, Maurice (Angie) Long of Coon Rapids, IA; mother-in-law, Bernice (Thomas) Rowlett of Missouri Valley, IA; eight grandchildren, and many beloved nieces and nephews. Jerry was preceded in death by his parents, Floyd and Valda Birdsall; sisters, Verma (Gene) Smith, and Donna Rae Munhofen; brothers, Ronald (Lulabelle) Birdsall, and Rossie Birdsall; brother-in-law, Carrol Teske; stepdaughter, Barb Kling; nephews: Rex Birdsall, Joseph Birdsall, and Scott Munhofen. A CELEBRATION OF LIFE SERVICE will be held at Broadway United Methodist Church, 11 South First Street, Council Bluffs, IA, on Saturday, May 27th at 10:30am with luncheon to follow.
