Services for Jerome J. Houdek, 62 of Omaha who died at his home April 23, 1995 will be 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, April 26 at St. Michael’s Catholic Church in Central City. Rev. Nelson Newman will officiate. Burial will be in the Central City Cemetery.

Visitation will be Tuesday at St. Michael’s from 5 p.m. -7:30 p.m. with a rosary at 7:30 p.m.

Jerome J. Houdek was born December 5, 1932 in Valparaiso to Charles and Mary Ruzicka Houdek. He attended rural Valparaiso schools and graduated from Assumption Catholic High School in Dwight in 1951.

He entered the United States Army in 1951, serving until 1953.

He married Elsie Benes, June 20, 1955 at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Agnew, Nebraska. They lived near Valparaiso for three years and, in 1958, they moved to Hallam where he farmed in partnership with his brother-in-law, Rudy Benes for 13 years. In 1971, the family moved to Chapman, where the two continued their farming partnership.

He was a member of St. Michael’s Catholic Church and Knights of Columbus. He was Eucharistic minister and served on various church committees. He was also a member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles and had served on the District 61 School Board in Hallam.

He was preceded in death by two brothers, Joseph and Charlie and two sisters, Charlotte Houdek and Margaret Hottoby.

He is survived by his wife, Elsie of Chapman; his parents, Charles and Mary Houdek of Central City; four daughters and sons-in-law, Theresa and Steve Lawrence of Central City, Rose and Bob Helgoth of St. Libory, Corinne and Dan Brockhaus of Lincoln and Marianna and Paul Andersen of Blair; three sons and daughters-in-law, Dave and Candy Houdek of Chapman, Gerald Houdek of Chapman, Joe and Darla Houdek of Chapman; four brothers and sisters-in-law, Ray and Adeline Houdek of Chapman, Edmund and Marilyn Houdek of Sedalia, Missouri; Marvin and Ann Houdek and Tom Houdek, all of Texas; two sisters and a brother-in-law, Regina and Leonard Fiala of Geneva and Rita Houdek of Grand Island and 16 grandchildren.

Solt Funeral Home in Central City is in charge of arrangements.
