MRS. HOLSTEIN PASSES AWAY MAY 28

Mrs. Christina Holstein, an old settler of Grant Township, passed away Tuesday, May 28th, at the Blair Hospital where she had been for a week following a fall which resulted in painful injuries.

Mrs. Holstein was born in Denmark May 30, 1855, and was thus 84 years of age at her death. She came to America in 1863 and on September 7, 1872, was married to Christian F. Holstein, a son of the commander of the Danish military forces in the West Indies.

They made their home on a farm in Grant Township until the death of the husband, May 31, 1930. Since that time she has made her home with her children, spending most of her time with Mrs. Emma Cameron.

Mrs. Holstein is survived by nine children, the sons Fred, Julius, Victor, Samuel, Edward, Dewey; the daughters, Nora Newkirk, Emma Cameron, and Hattie Skov. Two daughters passed away in infancy. She is also survived by 38 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren.

Funeral services were held on May 31st from the Bendorf Funeral Parlors and the Norwegian Lutheran Church at Orum with Rev. H.C. Jorgensen in charge. Interment was in the Orum cemetery.

MRS. HOLSTEIN DIES AT AGE 85

INJURIES RECEIVED IN FALL PROVE FATAL; SERVICES HELD FRIDAY

Mrs. Christina Holstein, 85, widow of Christian F. Holstein, died at Blair hospital late last Monday as the result of injuries received in a fall several days before. She had been in poor health for several months.

Christina Paulsen was born in Denmark May 30, 1855, and came to America in 1863. On September 7, 1872 she was married to Christian F. Holstein, son of the Danish military commander in the West Indies, and the couple soon moved to a Washington county farm located in Grant township. They remained there until Mr. Holstein’s death on Mary 31, 1930.

Since her husband’s death Mrs. Holstein had been with her children, spending most of the time with her daughter, Mrs. Emma Cameron, east of Spiker.

She is survived by six sons Fred, Julius, Samuel, Edward, Victor and Dewey Holstein; two daughters, Mrs. Nora Newkirk and Mrs. Emma Cameron; 38 grandchildren and 15 great grandchildren. Two daughters died in infancy.

Funeral services were held Friday at the Bendorf Funeral Home and later at the Norwegian Lutheran church at Orum with the Rev. Harold C. Jorgensen of First Lutheran church of Blair in charge. Burial followed in the Orum cemetery.

NOTE: This obituary neglected to include daughter, Mrs. Victor Skov (Hattie) (An alternate name for Lincoln Cemetery is Orum Cemetery.)
