Dr. Richard E. Geesaman, 88

Served as Medical Director at IBM in Boulder

Dr. Richard E. Geesaman, 88, died May 23, 2011, at his home in Boulder, Colo. A memorial service will be held at a later date.

Richard Elliot Geesaman was born March 17, 1923, in Fort Calhoun, to Dr. Edgar and Clara (Rohwer) Geesaman.

He graduated from Fort Calhoun High School, and having received a Regents Scholarship, attended the University of Nebraska, where he was a member of Delta Upsilon and earned a Phi Beta Kappa key. He graduated from the UNL College of Medicine.

He served in the United States Army, and was stationed primarily in occupied Germany.

During his residency at Cleveland General Hospital, he met Ann Bernhardt. The couple married in 1947.

Dr. Geesaman was in private practice at the Boulder Clinic for more than 20 years before becoming medical director at the IBM facility in Boulder, a position he held until retirement.

He is survived by his wife, Ann; daughters and son-in-law, Ann Ponder, and Elizabeth and Eric Pommer; son and daughter-in-law, Richard and Brieda Geesaman, all of Boulder; eight grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; brother, Donald, of Edina, Minn.; sister-in-law, Claire Geesaman of Blair; and six cousins.

He was preceded in death by an infant daughter, Marnie; and brothers, George and Edgar.
