Elfreida Hovendick, 98, April 7, 1987, in Blair.

She was born June 10, 1889, in Burlington, Wisconsin, to August Trantow and Emma Fricke Trantow.

They moved to Blair when she was four months old. Her father died when she was very young, and her mother married Adolph Haack.

She had two full sisters, three half-sisters, and four half-brothers.

Hovendick told about picking raspberries, blackberries and helping deliver milk as a child. She also worked in a canning factory. As a young girl, she worked in the Racket Store.

She attended Central School through the tenth grade. She was issued a third grade certificate and taught school one year.

She and Frank J. Hovendick were married on May 6, 1908. Three children were born to the couple-Francis, Herman and Opal.

She was a loving wife and mother. She was always kind and thoughtful of everyone, and was a faithful member of the First Lutheran Church and was active in her church circle.

She is survived by three children and their spouses, Francis and Nelda Hovendick; Herman and Edna Hovendick and Opal and Frank Lambrecht, all of Blair; 8 grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren, and 1 great-great-grandchild; sister Mrs. Josephine Kruise, and brother Roland Haack and Adolph Haack, all of California, and by many friends and relatives.

Services will be at 2 p.m., Thursday, April 9, at First Lutheran Church in Blair. Burial will be in the Blair Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Marvin Cudley, Dave Dougherty, Duane Hovendick, James Hovendick, Don Lambrecht and Kenneth Lambrecht.
