Elfrieda M. (Rix) Hovendick

Funeral services were held last Saturday for Mrs. Francis Hovendick, 59, who died January 13th at Memorial Community Hospital in Blair. Mrs. Hovendick was the former Elfrieda M. Rix and a life-long resident of Washington and Douglas Counties.

Mrs. Hovendick was born September 18, 1905 at Omaha and lived in Douglas County and south part of Washington County all of her life. She was baptized and confirmed at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Benson. She was married to Francis Hovendick February 22, 1936.

Mrs. Hovendick became a member of St. John’s Lutheran Church in Bennington December 7, 1952 and took an active interest in the work of the church. For some time she was chairman of the Christina Education Committee of the church.

In addition to her church work and her home she was interested in the activities of the Cozy Corner Extension Club and was a member for 22 years.

Mrs. Hovendick is survived by her husband and by her daughter Lois, (Mrs. Marvin Cudley) and by her son Duane. Other survivors are two granddaughters, six brothers and one sister. The brothers are Walter Rix, of Junction City, Oregon; Henry of Omaha; Arnold and Russell of Bennington; Elmer of Stanton and John of Clearwater. Mrs. Alma Sach, of Silverton, Oregon is a sister.

Funeral services were held at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Bennington last Saturday, with the Rev. Norman Schroeder officiating. Burial under the direction of the Hadan Mortuary was made in the Pleasant Hill Cemetery.

Pallbearers were Bill Anderson, Leon D. DeBolt, Kenneth Lambrecht, Lester Rix, Ronald Rix and Donald Lambrecht.
