Mary Hurdum Rites Held in Blair Wed.

Miss Mary N. Hurdum, daughter of Mr. Fred Hurdum, was born March 11, 1910 on the farm north of Blair. As a girl she attended the Bono school, the Blair High School and Dana College. She graduated from the Blair High School in 1928.

After attending Dana for two years, she took a course in music at the University of Nebraska where she received her Bachelor of Arts Degree in 1932. For a time she worked in Chicago and being an accomplished vocalist did some singing in a church choir.

She was a member of the Dana Choir that toured Denmark in 1929 after having won distinction as the best high school soprano in Nebraska in 1928.

She had suffered most of her life and this trouble was aggravated by an acute illness in… and more recently by a siege of pneumonia which necessitated hospitalization for seven weeks this spring. She was apparently on her way to recovery when she suddenly passed away.

She leaves to mourn her passing, her father, Mr. Fred Hurdum, a brother, Dr. Herman Hurdum, sisters: Mrs. Myrtle Raym… of Chicago and Mrs. Viggo Anderson of Blair, a step brother, H… Terkelsen, and several nieces and nephews. An older brother, Harvey, passed away at the age of eleven years.

The funeral services were held on July 16 at the Bendorf mortuary and the First Lutheran Church with Rev. H. C. Jorgensen in charge. Burial was made in Blair cemetery.

Miss Hurdum, Chicago, Dies

FORMER BLAIRITE, 37, WELL-KNOWN AS VOCALIST, SUCCUMBS TO ILLNESS

A sufferer from heart trouble most of her life, Miss Mary N. Hurdum, 37, former Blair girl, died Friday in Chicago. Miss Hurdum was hospitalized seven weeks recently with pneumonia but was seemingly on the way to recovery when she died unexpectedly.

Miss Hurdum, daughter of Fred Hurdum of Blair and the late Mrs. Hurdum, formerly was a well-known Nebraska vocalist. In 1928 she was selected as the best high school soprano in Nebraska. Later, she was with the Dana College a cappella choir when the Blair organization toured Denmark in 1929. After going to Chicago she was a church singer.

The body was returned to Blair. Funeral serves were held at 2pm yesterday at the Bendorf Funeral Home and at First Lutheran church. The Rev. H.C. Jorgensen officiated, and burial was in Blair cemetery.

Mary N. Hurdum was born March 11, 1910 near Blair. As a girl she attended Bono rural school, Dana Academy and Blair high school After attending Dana College, she studied music at the University of Nebraska, where she received her bachelor of arts degree in music in 1932.

Surviving Miss Hurdum are her father, Fred, of Blair; a brother, Dr. Herman Hurdum of Binghamton, N.Y.; two sisters, Mrs. Myrtle E. Ramon of Chicago and Mrs. Viggo Anderson of Blair; a stepbrother, Howard Therkelsen, and several nieces and nephews. An older brother, Harvey Hurdum, died at the age of 11 years.
